For Boston is 501(c)(3) non profit organization that was initially inspired by Mike O’Malley’s Commencement at the University of New Hampshire.   During this speech, Mike spoke to the amount of negative news coverage that young people are exposed to on a daily basis and challenged graduates to look beyond the negative stories and find hope through examples in our community.  He offered a straightforward challenge “Find a way to add to the sum total of goodness and then do it”.  This inspired us to reach out to leaders in our community to learn more about their philanthropic work and where they found inspiration.  We ask local leaders to share their personal stories of perseverance and goodwill, in the hope that their experience and advice can help someone else on a similar path.  We believe that this side of Boston that is often overlooked and that our philanthropic history must be preserved for young people to lead in the future.  We hope to continue the tradition of philanthropy in New England and strengthen the community that we love.
